WOW!
The recent National CPS Conference was good to Norvan. Not only did our STO pick up the Volunteer of the Year award across Canada, but we won First Place for our Anchor Watch Newsletter (Tom Symons), Second Place in the Training Aids Competition for The Boating Class Gazette (Paige Ackerman), Second Place for our Website in Best of the Web (Paige Ackerman - there's irony for you!), and in Digital Presentations we won First and Second places for our Welcome to the Boating Class video (Paige Ackerman) and for the Global Positioning lecture presentation (Guy Cooper). Impressive
Norvan's Awards
While
the Merit Marks recognize the substantial volunteer effort made by
many of our Members, without which the Squadron could not function,
certain Members make a contribution which excels. Norvan Power and
Sail Squadron honors these special Members with special awards.

CPS
members are not only self-educated but freely offer instruction in our
courses and undertake all administrative duties. The only compensation
for this substantial volunteer effort is a Merit Mark Certificate awarded
by the Chief Commander for services rendered during the previous calendar
year. Every member in good standing who completes not less than 20 hours
of work in the interests of CPS in a year qualifies for one merit mark.
Only one merit mark can be earned in a single calendar year, regardless
of the number of hours contributed.
Upon
receiving 5 merit marks, a person is designated as a Senior Member. Once
the 20 merit mark level is reached, the person becomes a Life Member,
is given a CPS flag with the maple leaf bordered in gold, and is exempt
from payment of further annual dues.
