Why should you get one of these? Consider the following.........

  • Operators of powered vessels will be required to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card showing proof of competency and to carry it with them at all times while operating a powered boat

  • There are now age and horsepower restrictions to operate a vessel.

  • As of September 15, 1999, any operator of a powered vessel who was born after April 1, 1983 is required to show proof of competency. Some age and horsepower restrictions apply.

  • As of September 15, 2002, operators of powered vessels under 4 meters in length, including personal watercraft, are required to show proof of competency.

  • As of September 15, 2009, all operators of powered vessels are required to show proof of competency.

  • Persons under 16 years are prohibited from operating a PWC (Jet Ski).

  • Renters of powered vessels are now required to complete a dockside checklist as proof of competency.

  • A fine is charged against both the operator and the vessel owner for failure to follow the new regulations.

  • The first offense will cost the operator AND the owner $250 each.
